Immediately after surfing I started to feel a chill in my body and a sore throat. Within an hour I was flat out in bed with burning eyes, nose and throat along with a fever. Later that day it was reported that two waikiki beaches near where I surfed had tested extremely high for bacteria (Kuhio beach has bacteria 13x the safe level! How can that happen?) It’s now a couple days later and I feel about 80% better, but I won’t go back in the water until I hear that the waikiki beaches have been taken off the polluted list. It’s not worth the risk.
