E. Coli poisoning leading to HUS & acute renal failure in 2 year old

After a period of heavy rainfall, our daughter swam at a beach that had previous elevated E. coli results. 3 days later, she had severe nausea, vomiting & diarrhea. After failing to improve & taken to the ED, blood work showed hemolytic uremic syndrome & acute renal failure due to presumed VTEC (e. Coli) infection.
