Description

2 days after having surfed Praia Rocha close to the mole two of us suffered from a severe gastrointestinal disease. Symptoms included diarrhea, vomiting, severe stomach cramps, mild fever and aching limbs, which lasted 7-10 days.

It's safe to say that the disease came from the water as 2 other surfers, who didn't surf that day, didn't have any problems but ate the same food.

It rained heavily the days prior to our surf, which might have caused bad pollution of the Rio Arade leading into the ocean.

It's probably best to avoid surfing the rivermouth after periods of hard rain.
